CDE Art Show

By Mrs. Andersen, Art Teacher
Euclid has two pieces (of the three accepted from LPS) in the CDE art show. Both pieces made it into the online gallery. Check out some really cool student work. Click on the link below. Our two students are Stephanie F. and Bailey A.

Downtown Littleton Storefront Window Painting

The Euclid Art Department would like to send a huge thank you to Super Suppers of Littleton for inviting us to paint their store front window for Halloween and for treating us so kindly. We did not expect to be treated to the yummy scones but it was a very welcome treat on our chilly painting trip.  Our artwork can be seen at their store Super Suppers, 2540 West Main Street in Historic Downtown Littleton, for the month of October and after  a very kind request to extend our artwork on the window of the Fat Frog Café next door.  Thank you students for coming to Euclid on your day off from school  very early in the morning to paint. This year’s Euclid window painters include: Bailey Andersen, Ty Andersen, Sam Bateman, Brett Johnson, Morgan Schuler and Molly Zartman.

Euclid Student on VW Commercial

My name is Derek McKee. I went to Euclid for 3 years. In the summer of this year I had the amazing opportunity to do a commercial with Volkswagon showcasing my magic. It was an amazing opportunity. Over the summer I also competed and am currently  ranked 4th in the world by The International Brotherhood of Magicians. Now I am working on my next goal. To put on a hour long talk for middle school kids about you can do anything you put your mind to. I am hoping to start doing this talk next school year but would like to present it to Euclid first. Finally, I am attaching a link of the VW commercial on this email (it is youtube but I promise it is for a g rated audience).  Thank you for 3 great years of my life!

Euclid Student goes to Washington, D.C.

Raina Morse, a student at Euclid Middle School, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Morse will join a select group of students in Washington, D.C., April 20-25, 2009 to study leadership and explore some of the United States’ most prominent monuments and institutions.  Forum delegates will examine the characteristics of American leadership during times of national challenge and prosperity. They will also participate in small-group discussions and exercises to experience first-hand how successful leaders develop strategies, make decisions, build consensus and foster change.

A Huge Thank You to Student Council

Euclid’s student council raised over $850 for the Tennyson Center Operation Santa. This money, donated by students and staff paying to wear, can you imagine, PAJAMA PANTS or hats. The money raised made the children of Tennyson Center just a little bit happier during the holiday season. Operation Santa delivers hope, healing, and holiday joy to children living on their campus, attending their school and those that are served within the community.  The money went to items such as gift cards, movie passes, restaurant passes, and gift cards to Apex Sports center.

By participating in Operation Santa, our students and staff can experience teamwork and the satisfaction of knowing that their efforts are really having a tangible impact on the children who are struggling with issues no one should have to face.

So, a BIG thank you to Kaley Cohen, Seth Meersman, and the entire student council for their very hard work.

Mrs. Phillips Recognized as a National Finalist

Congratulations to Mrs. Jen Phillips of the Mt. Elbert core for being named one of two Colorado finalists for the 2008 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science. Mrs. Phillips has demonstrated that she is an outstanding educator dedicated to providing her students with a rich mathematics program and to improving mathematics education here at Euclid as well as all of Littleton Public Schools. Each Colorado finalist is automatically a candidate for the national level. Good luck, Mrs. Phillips.

Drama Teacher Extraordinare

It was last May that Carla McWilliams heard the news the she had been nominated for the Colorado Middle Level Theatre Educator of the Year by the Alliance for Colorado Theatre. One of Carla’s colleagues sent in the actual nomination. Carla had a lot of work to do for the nomination, but it was well worth it. On June 23, to be exact, Carla found out that she had been given the award. September 19, will be the luncheon when Carla actually receives the award. Carla said that she was stunned to receive the nomination, and, “thrilled to be given the award! It makes my job a joy rather than a chore.” Carla felt and will continue to feel, “very privileged to work with students in a school in which the arts are so supported by the administration and the community.” Congratulations, Carla. This award is very much deserved.

6th Grade Field Trip to Roxborough State Park

On Wednesday, October 1, 6th grade students from the Mt. Columbia core joined students from the Mt. Elbert core to go on a field trip to Roxborough State Park. The purpose of this trip was to study up close and personally the plants and animals of a grassland biome. Students and teachers were treated to a beautiful autumn day and a 2 mile hike through the park led by knowledgeable eco-guides from Roxborough. Some students were lucky enough to be guided by Paul Bleau, a former Euclid teacher who is now a guide in the park. Students were able to experience the ecosystem in ways that will help them to remember and truly comprehend this unit of study in science.

Statements from students included: “This was the best field trip ever!”, and “I want my parents to take me there on the weekends!” The rest of the EMS 6th grade students will be taking this same trip during the month of October.
